Twenty20 cricket has not only attracted the youths but also entered the unexplored markets of China and America where there was no existence of any form of cricket. Twenty20 cricket has achieved so much of success because it can deliver huge excitement in a very short period of time. The aggressive nature of the game has also come as boon for the advertisers and sponsors, who can reach maximum audience during the live telecast of any T20 match.

ICC General Manager (Commercial), Campbell Jamieson stated that this year’s Twenty20 World Cup is expected to be the most viewed cricket event in the history of the game. He added that ICC has decided to reach a record 216 countries through television coverage. He informed that during the inaugural edition in 2007 in South Africa, the viewership ratings were not only high in the Indian subcontinent but also across all participating countries.

According to him, ICC expect a 30 to 40 percent increase in viewership during this year’s tournament. ICC’s global media right and broadcast partners, ESPN Star Sports is aiming to achieve a wide viewer base during the Twenty20 World Cup. According to the MD of ESPN Star Sports, this year’s target of telecasting in 216 countries is double of what was achieved in the 2007 edition. ESPN Star Sports have signed 10 sponsors and an additional 20 corporates for spot-buys on live as well as pre-post programming, he said.

The ICC World Cup T20 England 2009 is the second ICC World Twenty20 Championship and the first inaugural event happened in 2007 in South Africa. India defeated Pakistan in the final to lift the trophy.

What’s surprising at ICC T20 England is that the T20 World Cup 2009 will have the women’s event too integrated with the men’s; first time ever for world cup cricket.

The men’s tournament will be played in Lords’ Trent Bridge and The Oval with 12 teams and women’s tournament will be played with 8 teams and at Taunton, Trent Bridge, The Oval and Lords. The men’s games will be followed by women’s every match day. World cup cricket at England itself spurs excitement and when it is world twenty20, the excitement and fun cannot be contained as we will have 2 matches almost every day; so we can see 4 teams vying for a win in 20-20 overs.

Dhoni is named captain of India’s squad announced Monday to defend the Twenty20 World Cup title in England. Several new players including Ravindra Jadeja and left arm-spinner Pragyan Ojha are also included in the team. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are not part of World Cup T20 team.

World cup will be starting from June 5 in England at Lord’s between England and Netherlands. The T20 world cup final will be on June 21st.

The All-India Selection Committee (Women’s cricket) met at the Cricket Centre earlier today, to pick the Indian squad for the ICC World T20, which will be played alongside the Men’s competition, in England in June 2009.

Placement for the Super Eight stage is determined as follows:
The first two teams in each group are placed 1 or 2. They will retain this position for the Super Eight stage, irrespective of whether they finish first or second in their group, unless they are knocked out by the team 3 in their group. In this instance, team 3 replaces the position of the team they knock out.

The teams finishing first and second in groups E and F, based on points obtained in the Super Eight stage will compete in the semi-finals
